Executive Summary
Azure AI Weather is an AI-assisted maritime decision-support tool. It helps skippers understand weather, operational risk, and voyage context.
In plain language:
- GO / CAUTION / NO-GO indicators and Operational Risk scores are advisory only.
- The Service does not replace official meteorological authorities, COLREGS, SOLAS, or local navigation rules.
- The skipper remains responsible for every navigation and safety decision — for the vessel, crew, and passengers.
- AI commentary explains context; it does not issue orders or guarantees.

1. Agreement
By accessing Azure AI Weather ("the Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy.
If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. The Service
Azure AI Weather provides:
- Marine weather forecasts and operational insight
- AI-assisted chat and advisory commentary
- Skipper cockpit tools (authenticated tiers)
- Black Box voyage logging (Pro / Founders)
- Crew messaging and SOS capabilities (where enabled)
- Founders ground-truth programme (invite only)
3. Not a substitute for official sources
The Service is an operational decision-support tool. It is not:
- An official meteorological authority
- A substitute for IMO, flag state, or port authority regulations
- A replacement for COLREGS, SOLAS, or local navigation rules
- Professional maritime surveying or legal advice
4. Account tiers

Tier access is controlled by subscription, whitelist invitation, or administrator grant.
5. Account responsibilities
You must:
- Provide accurate registration information
- Verify your email before accessing Founder features
- Keep credentials confidential
- Not share accounts or circumvent access controls
- Not probe, scrape, or abuse API rate limits
- Not use the Service for unlawful purposes
You are responsible for all activity under your account.
6. Acceptable use
Prohibited:
- Attempting to access other users' voyages, chats, or data
- Reverse-engineering weather models or circumventing security
- Automated scraping beyond permitted rate limits
- Uploading malicious content or prompt-injection attacks
- Misrepresenting AI output as official authority communication
- Using SOS features for non-emergency purposes
We may suspend accounts violating these terms.
7. Intellectual property
Weather models, operational risk methodology, software, and documentation are owned by the operator. You retain ownership of voyage data you create. You grant us a limited licence to store and process your data to provide the Service.
Founders submitting field-check data may be subject to a separate research agreement regarding anonymised use.
8. Subscriptions & payment
Commercial subscriptions (Azure AI PRO) will be governed by separate billing terms when launched. Founders Beta may operate on invitation without payment.
9. Availability
We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. Maintenance, weather API outages, or IoT station downtime may affect features.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- The Service is provided "as is"
- We are not liable for navigation decisions, property damage, injury, or loss arising from reliance on forecasts, AI commentary, or operational risk scores
- Our total liability is limited to fees paid in the 12 months preceding a claim (or €100 for free users)
Nothing limits liability for death, personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud.
11. Termination
You may delete your account at any time via DELETE /api/privacy/account.
We may terminate access for breach of terms, abuse, or legal requirement.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Portugal / European Union, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protection in your country of residence.
Disputes: courts of Lisbon, Portugal, unless EU consumer law provides otherwise.
13. Changes
Material changes will be notified via email or in-app notice. Continued use constitutes acceptance.
